The Jurisdiction of the Small Claims Court

This page, maintained by the Law Society of Upper Canada, answers many of the common questions about the Ontario Small Claims Court, including limits on the size of your claim, the types of claims that can be tried in Small Claims Court, where you should file your claim, and the amount of time you have to file a claim.

The Law Society of Upper Canada

The Law Society of Upper Canada also maintains an extensive public site containing detailed information on criminal law, family law, real estate law, employment law, and other categories of law in Ontario. There is also information on legal services in Ontario, including legal aid provisions, lawyer referral services, and a list of lawyer websites.

This site, maintained by the government of Ontario, provides a basic level of public access to Ontario legislation, free of charge.

The Ministry of the Attorney General, Ontario

This site, also maintained by the government of Ontario, provides a comprehensive guide to the legal system in this province including: what to expect when going to court as a victim, witness or juror; what to do when served with court papers; where the courts are located; and how to use Small Claims Court. There is information on legal services in Ontario, including legal aid provisions and lawyer referral services; Child Support Guidelines, the Family Responsibility Office, the Office of the Children's Lawyer and other aspects of the family justice system; and the role of the Public Guardian and Trustee and powers of attorney in matters of substitute decision making on behalf of incapable people.

Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner

The Information and Privacy Commissioner was established to provide an independent review of Ontario government decisions and practices concerning access and privacy, under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act. This website is designed to help people who need help with an access or privacy issue.
